For Kids

Little Wigglers Storytime – Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30am – for infants to 4 year-olds – Join Ms. Cara for stories, songs, and coloring at the Demarest Train Station. Please bring your masks. No registration necessary.

Chess Club – Saturdays from 10:00am to 11:30am in the library Children’s Room – all ages – Come to the children’s room to learn and practice chess with other kids! All levels welcome. Registration not required, but space is limited.

Take Home Craft Kits – new kits available Tuesday, June 7 and Tuesday, June 21– stop by the library to pick up an arts & crafts kit! Supplies limited. First-come, first-served.

Read to a Dog – Thursday, June 9 and Thursday, June 16 starting at 4:00pm in the Programming Room – Children can practice their reading one-on-one with an adorable and loving therapy dog! Children may register for one ten-minute session per date.

Korean Storytime – Monday, June 13, 3:30pm to 4:00pm at the Demarest Train Station – all ages – Korean-language stories will be read aloud by community volunteers! This program is offered in partnership with the Korean Demarest Parents Association. Registration is NOT required! Masks must be worn at all times.

Build a Sail Car with the TAB – Wednesday, June 15 at 3:30pm at the Train Station – grades K to 3 – Join Teen Advisory Board members Evan and Grayson, as they help you engineer a Sail Car that can go the furthest distance, travel the fastest, or carry the most weight! Supplies are limited, so registration is required.

Writing Club – Thursday, June 16 at 5:30pm in the Children’s Programming Room – ages 6 to 12 – Exercise your creative writing skills by joining the library’s Writing Club! A friendly teen volunteer will guide you through the writing process, as you use your imagination and create your very own stories and poems.

Wacky Science – Thursday, June 30, 3:30pm in the Children’s Programming Room – ages 6 to 12 – Make on ocean in a jar and learn about waves in this fun experiment!

Summer Reading: An Ocean of Possibilities!

Tie Dye with Splash Labs – Friday, June 10 at 3:30pm at the gazebo – ages 6 to 12 – Get ready for Summer Reading with a fun tie dye party with Splash Lab! Registration required. Please register each child individually.

Music with Miss Nita – Tuesday, June 14 at 10:30am – ages 0 to 5 – Join Miss Nita at the Demarest Train Station for some singing, dancing and musical fun! This program is for children ages 0 to 5 and their caregiviers.

Summer Reading Scavenger Hunt – Monday, June 20 to Monday, June 25 – all ages – Come to the library any day between June 20 and June 25 for a fun Scavenger Hunt! Children can hunt for pictures of books about oceans/ocean animals. If they find them all, they get a cool prize! No registration required, but each child may only complete the scavenger hunt once.

ESL Conversation Group – Wednesdays from 1pm to 2:30pm at the Demarest Library – Join us for a relaxed, in-person conversation group. Registration is not required. For more information, email

Knitting Club – Wednesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 15 at 7:30pm – Meetings are being held via Zoom. Email to receive a link to join.

Yoga for Peaceful Calm – Thursdays, 11am to 12pm on Zoom, except Thursday, June 16 – Regulars and new registrants are invited to join Karen Noel for a weekly Zoom yoga and meditation session devoted to interior focus and external poise. Engage in an ancient practice and watch how quickly it can become a way of life! To participate in this class, you need to download Zoom software to your computer or the app to your mobile device, links to all of which can be found here.

Demarest: Historically Speaking – Wednesday, July 13 at 6:30pm, library Programming Room – Borough historian Mary Anne Clark will present an overview of the history of Demarest and the surrounding area.

Community Read Discussion – Tuesday, June 2 at 7:00pm, Demarest Train Station – Join your neighbors for a friendly discussion of The Guest List by Lucy Foley. Find more information, including how to get a copy, here: Registration is not required, but appreciated

Check-In with the Director – Thursday, June 9 at 10am, Library Quiet Room – Stop by the library to chat with our director director, Parinda Desai, about what you want from the library. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. No registration required.
