Solicitations Policy
Although the Demarest Free Public Library will not solicit funds or goods, it may allow solicitations for select community drives or fundraisers, when such activities do not unduly interfere with the conduct of Library service. Only requests from Demarest-related, non-profit groups will be considered; support will not be permitted for the benefit of private individuals or commercial concerns. The use of Library premises is not to be construed as endorsement or sponsorship of the organization’s function or beliefs. It will be the responsibility of the organization to provide publicity regarding the solicitation.
The Demarest Free Public Library assumes no liability for loss or damage of property of the organization or for funds collected on behalf of the organization.
Distribution of Free Materials Policy
The Library provides space for display and distribution of free materials. Free materials include public documents and announcements that publicize non-profit, civic, educational, cultural, or recreational organizations and events.
Commercial and personal announcements or active solicitations of any kind are not allowed. Materials for display or distribution may not espouse partisan politics or demean groups or individuals. The Library reserves the right to place limits on location, duration of display, and size of materials.
All announcements must be approved by the Library Director before being posted or distributed. In general, items will be removed from posting after 30 days. The Library assumes no responsibility for the preservation or protection of materials posted or placed for free distribution.
Materials posted or left for free distribution without approval from the Library will be discarded.
Distributing or posting of items by the library does not imply endorsement, support, or co-sponsorship by the Library.
Adopted by the Demarest Library Board of Trustees July 10, 2023.
