What’s changing?
On January 2, we will begin using a new delivery company to move holds and returned items between libraries. The state library selects what company we use; this change will be going into effect for every library in New Jersey. The new company has promised to be faster and more efficient, so we hope this will improve your overall library experience.
What does that mean for me?
- You will not be able to request items from December 16, 2017 to January 8, 2018
- If you place a request before December 16 but haven’t received it by then, your request will still be honored, but you should anticipate delays.
- Digital and in-person borrowing will not be affected.
Don’t forget, you can always use your library card at any BCCLS library.
If during this time you’d like an item from another library, you can call a library that has a copy and ask that the item be held for you. You can then go pick it up with your library card. Another option is saving items you’re interested in to a list on your account so you remember what you want to request after January 4.
We also ask that from December 29 to January 8 you please try to return any items you have checked out to the library to which they belong. While we will still of course accept returns from any library in the system, we will be unable to ship them until the new shipping company takes over. We understand if taking an item to its home library isn’t feasible or convenient for you, but if you are able to drop your Closter books at Closter or your Cresskill DVDs at Cresskill, please do so! It will save everyone time and make the transition to the new service faster and easier.
We know what an important service requesting items from other libraries is and we sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. If you have any questions, please email us at demacirc@bccls.org
