July for Kids

Little Wigglers Storytime – Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30am, except Monday, July 4 – for infants to 4 year-olds – Join Ms. Cara for stories, songs, and coloring at the Demarest Train Station. Please bring your masks. No registration necessary.

Chess Club – Saturdays from 10:00am to 11:30am in the library Children’s Room – all ages – Come to the children’s room to learn and practice chess with other kids! All levels welcome. Registration not required, but space is limited.

Take Home Craft Kits – new kits available Tuesday, July 5 and Tuesday, July 19 – stop by the library to pick up an arts & crafts kit! Supplies limited. First-come, first-served.

Music with Miss Nita – Tuesday, July 5, 10:30am at the Gazebo – ages 0 to 5 – Join Miss Nita at the Demarest Gazebo (weather permitting) for some singing, dancing and musical fun! Registration required.

Coding with Python – Wednesdays, 6:00pm on Zoom – ages 12 and up – Learn to code in this 8-week course on Zoom, led by a volunteer from AI Go Learning/Stem For All! Registration required.

Coding with Scratch – Mondays, 6:00pm on Zoom, starting Monday, July 11 – ages 7 and up – Learn to code in this 8-week course on Zoom, led by a volunteer from AI Go Learning/Stem For All! Registration required.

Read to a Dog – Thursday, July 7 and Thursday, July 28 starting at 4:00pm in the Programming Room – Children can build confidence by practicing their reading one-on-one with an adorable and loving therapy dog! Children may register for one ten-minute session per date.

Caricatures with Christine – Monday July 11, starting at 3:30pm in the Children’s Room – ages 4 to 12 – Have your caricature drawn by Miss Christine! Registration is required. Each child may register for one 6-minute session. Register in person or over the phone by calling the library: (201) 768-8714.

Writing Club – Wednesday, July 13 at 2:30pm in the Children’s Programming Room – grades 1 to 5 – Exercise your creative writing skills by joining the library’s Writing Club! A friendly teen volunteer will guide you through the writing process, as you use your imagination and create your very own stories and poems.

Engineering Workshop – Thursday, July 21, 3:30pm at the Train Station – grades 2 to 6 – Design, create, test, and improve your prototype with Kerryann O’Connor in this special ocean-themed workshop. Registration required.

Move & Groove with Miss Jolie! – Friday, July 22 at 2:00pm at the Gazebo – ages 1 to 6 – Join Miss Jolie for music, movement, and fun! Registration required. This program will take place in the Train Station in case of bad weather.

Arts & Crafts: Paint an Ocean Scene – Tuesday, July 26 at 2:00pm at the Train Station – ages 3 to 5 – Join Ms. Cara at the Demarest Train Station and paint your very own ocean scene!

Tween & Teen Events

These events are being offered in collaboration with the Closter and Haworth Public Libraries

Henna Party – Wednesday, July 20 at 4:00pm in the Programming Room – ages 12 and up – Learn how to make Henna Tattoos. All materials will be provided. 

Learn to Podcast – Wednesday, July 20 at 5:15pm in the Programming Room – ages 12 and up – From recording tips & equipment to how to script and distribute your podcast, this three series workshop will introduce you to the qualities of a great podcast and give you the nuts and bolts of podcasting and give you the starter tools to produce, host, and create your own show! It will be taught by Bergen County podcasters.

Harry Potter Murder Mystery Party – Wednesday, July 27 at 4:00pm – ages 12 and up – Celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday and play detective in this exciting special event!
