Summer reading books can be borrowed for two weeks only. If you need longer, place a request on the title and bring it back to the library. We can check it out to you again if no one else is waiting for it.
Freshmen
All incoming freshman must read one of the following:
Students taking Freshman Honors English must also read The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
Sophomores
All rising sophomores must read one of the following:
Students taking Sophomore Honors English must also:
- Read the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller
- Watch the 1996 film The Crucible directed by Nicholas Hytner (the DVD can be borrowed for three days only)
- Read “The Lesson of Salem”
- Read “Puratinism in New England”
- Read “Puratinism and Predestination”
Juniors
All rising juniors must read one of the following:

Students taking World Mythology & Archetypal Literature must also read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
Students taking Literature & Philosophy of Asia must also read The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Amy Tan
Students taking AP English Literature & Composition must also read How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C Foster and The Hours by Michael Cunningham
Students taking AP Language & Composition at Northern Valley Demarest must also read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
